TACP were appointed to design a first class school to accommodate 210 pupils,
with additional capacity for ALN, a Welsh language centre and pre-school provision to provide a community hub space integrated within the school site. The building is designed to be net zero in use and benefits from air source heat pumps and PV panels.
The project achieved the Outstanding BREEAM Official rating of 93.69%, becoming the UK’s highest scoring BREEAM 2018 education project and setting a new national benchmark for sustainability in the education sector.
Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron and its Calon Aeron ALN wing were awarded Project of the Year – Inclusive Design at the Education Buildings Wales Awards. The ALN wing offers a sensory room, quiet room, life skills room, and music room — all designed to support and enrich the educational journey of the pupils.
