Coleg Cambria is a Further Education college serving 6 campuses across North Wales. The Llysfasi campus near Ruthin delivers practical land-based education courses on subjects including Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Care. Given the nature of the teaching courses at Llysfasi, much of the scheduled activities take place out of hours. As a result, it is impractical for many students to commute every day and the provision of on-site accommodation for students has been crucial in the successful running of these courses.
Our proposal for a new accommodation block will enhance the current on-site accommodation to meet the growing demand with an additional 50 en-suite bedrooms grouped into flats with shared communal areas. Externally, the design of the new block will be in-keeping with the style of the existing buildings on site to include natural sandstone, timber cladding and slate roof, alongside modern elements of curtain walling.
The new block will be sited on the location of the current Learning Resource Centre which is to be demolished as part of this development. Unfortunately the continued use of the LRC has become unviable due to significant structural defects.
